Week 13 blog

The Flavian Amphitheater is an amazing site to behold. The creation itself is a testament to the genius and creativity to the people of Rome at the time. This is probably the most obvious example of how past art and architecture literally still lives in the world we know now. The indoor and outdoor stadiums of the present day still often closely follow the same architectural design of the Flavians and Romans. To see such a mammoth creation come froma a time with no modern day technologies or machines to aid them in the building is stupendous. Sadly, the amphitheater was pulled apart for different bulding needs over time and is only a piece of what was an astoundingly large structure. Even with all my schooling and the technology available to me I know that I could not even begin to create something this amazing or large. The cultures of the past have left their marks on the present day. This specific piece of art is a living piece of history which (thank goodness) was salvaged and eventually seen for it's priceless historical value.

I found your blog very interesting. and it is funny that we both wrote our blog for that week on the same subject. the Flavian Ampitheater is still to this date, Rome's greatest arena !!

This kid in my economics class just did his current event about how much money and time is going into the building of new baseball stadiums around the country. It is ridiculous to think about the funds and effort that go into such a project. While the subject of interest in the venue has definitely changed over the years (no more gladiators, performers etc) obviously the value of entertainment still holds strong. Governments throughout the centuries have worked to foster such value and you identified that quite simply which was very nice.

I also blogged about the Flavian Amphitheater. I am amazed both by the structure itself and also by how it has stood the test of time.

Very good point Taryn!
